One recent example of our work involved building a full replacement ride control system for a Balloon ride.
To ensure that the new system met current ADIPS requirements, we first carried out a thorough assessment of the existing system. Based on our assessment, we developed an updated electrical design that incorporated several key safety features, including a Pilz Safety Device. This device monitors the position of the main drive contactor and prevents the ride from resetting following an E-stop if it is stuck in the wrong position. This helps to prevent the ride from restarting in an unsafe position, enhancing the safety of the ride for both operators and riders.
The new electrical panel was built in-house using all new parts, and we opted for a stainless steel enclosure to ensure durability and longevity. This was especially important given that the ride is a traveling one that spends extended periods of time outside. By investing in a stainless steel enclosure, we were able to reduce the risk of water ingress or corrosion that often comes with painted steel enclosures, saving our client money on replacement costs in the long run.
The Balloon ride operates using two timers that are both activated when the start button is pressed. The first timer is the cycle time, while the second is a delay timer that starts the lift. The lift is a hydraulic ram in the center of the ride that lifts up the counter-rotating top section. Once it hits the top limit, it stays there until the stop button is pushed or the cycle timer expires. Then it starts to lower the ram until it hits the lower limit, which stops the rotation. With our comprehensive solution and attention to detail, we were able to provide our client with a ride control system that met their specific needs and delivered reliable, safe, and efficient operation.
